Metal Inspired Outfit

This is the outfit I created for my AS Level Textiles exam entitled 'Materials and Techniques' where I focussed on the use of metals within fashion.

This is very heavily inspired by the artwork of HR Giger hence the colours used and skull motifs. The outfit consists of a long sleeve black net top, a black pleather hooded cape (with metal attachments on front and 'goggles' on hood) and a black pleather skirt. I created the metal panel from silver mesh that I hand stitched onto the cape, after which I created the skull and circuit board motifs from old beer cans that I cut up and sculpted until I reached the desired appearance. The texture on the central skulls' horns was created by wrapping thin metal wire around the metal base shape. The 'goggles' are created from the bottom of the beer cans from which I cut sections out and then glued to the hood.
